2016 World Cup Men`s

WORLD CUP MEN'S 2016 CHAMPIONS!

US does do it over and over again, though.
Each team is different. Each tournament is different. But the results remain the same!

This is the 3rd Paintball World Cup already, but the first one in Men`s category. First time nations from all around the world were competing for the World Champ title in 2013 in Chantilly. Next time it was Mayalsia, Langkawi, second World Cup took place in an exotic location. And next location to host the World Cup for Men`s was in Basildon (Great Britain). The event was held on 1-3 July 2016.

It wasn`t an easy task this year for everyone. We had strong National teams from Europe, participated in European Championship year by year, together with new ones, represented by club teams. But they were competing on the same level, even if composed right before the World Cup. It is hard to fight against teams that had played together for years, teams with federations behind them and support systems and structures. Hard, but still possible!

For the World Cup in Basildon we had 16 Nationsl teams participated. No need to say that Europe was the most represented continent. But we had also teams from North and South America and Africa as well. National teams from USA, Argentina and Gabon were also competing on the World Cup.

The seeding was prepared on the basis of the National teams participation and results in World Cup 2015 together with results from European Championship Men`s 2015.

The teams were placed in four groups of four teams each, to play the remaining three in their group. The two best-placed teams from each group advanced to the Quarterfinals.

No big surprise was to see in quarters all the last year`s European Championship winners: France, Austria, Belgium and Norway? together with Germany, Russia and Poland. No doubts that USA, the last years World Champion, also managed to geth from their group, despite the tough preliminary game with Russia when they were very close to loose. that was the only game with result 4:3 to USA. The rest their opponents were getting maximum 1 point from them in the whole game.

Sweden did not manage to get out of group B by giving to France and Poland a chance to go. This time Polish team surprised everyone: after a good start in preliminary games they went to quarters, then they easily got to semis by winning 4:1 from Belgium.

Russia did not manage to stand in questers against Norway, 4:1. But Norway fully used their chance this time. They did not plan to stuck with bronze, so in semis they bet France 4:0 and were ready to reach the gold! Despite they had to meet US team in final, they were dedicated and ready to fight! It wasn`t a long game, but everyone will remember it!

"For Team Norway, WC in Basildon was awesome. Unfortunately we couldn't make it all the way, but 2nd place is a great result for our small nation.
We put the team together from the best players in Norway, and we felt confident when facing our opponents. They where not to be taken lightly though, as we would play both France and Russia on the way to the final. The team performed really well throughout the prelims and in the elimination rounds, but USA was too strong in the final. We have nothing but great experiences from WC 2016. Our great result has had me forget any negative sides, we had a great time in London".
Christopher Rønneberg, Norway

And US National team ... they did it again! US keep celebrating success, and the only way they get to celebrate being the best in the world is when they prove it, and so they've been fortunate to do it many times!

"The 2016 World Cup in Basildon was an amazing experience. The opportunity to represent the United States of America was a true honor and I am continuously impressed by the competitive spirit from all of the participating countries.
After a long weekend of clashing with the top players from countries such as Russia, England and Norway, it was thrilling to finish the event undefeated and have our team raise the first place trophy.
I cannot thank the Millennium Series and the EPBF enough for hosting such a prestigious event".
Tim Montressor, USA

Perhaps this will inspire paintball players in other nations too. We don't know whether the US will participate in the next World Cup and we don't know exactly what form future World Cups will take. But we do know someone needs to challenge US National team for paintball supremacy because right now this great team has no foil, none but its own history.

As usual, we are grateful to all the participants: to the Millennium Series for the support provided for the European Championship organization, to National Teams and also to all the National Federations involved in the organization; and those who helped to produce the very best paintball atmosphere ever - THE SPECTATORS!

We are also grateful to the Euroref guys for their hard referee work.

Special thanks for the pictures to Beter Bourne (Great Britain) and Ludo Roux (Faceful).
